Urbanest was crowned Developer of the Year at last night’s Property Week Student Accommodation Conference and Awards for Urbanest Vauxhall. This is GHA’s second project for Urbanest, having also successfully completed Urbanest King’s Cross. Miles Street comprises a slender 32-storey tower offering 454 student bedrooms through a mixture of cluster flats and self-contained studios. A double-height reception area provides a welcoming environment with the majority of the communal spaces at the base of the tower, thus offering an active frontage to Miles Street and a meeting place for students and visitors. At the top of the tower, there is a generous rooftop terrace and further communal lounge.
The judges in the Developer of the Year category were looking for exceptional student accommodation developers who were able to demonstrate that quality can be achieved within budgetary and time constraints, while not compromising on creating optimal living environments. They also required schemes to have incorporated cutting-edge design, communal and social facilities and a strong focus on technology, all while placing students at the heart of a scheme’s strategy.
Simon Pearson, Studio Director, said:
“As a developer they are interested in both high quality architecture and student experience which results in thought-provoking projects for the design team. By choosing interesting sites that are difficult to develop they pose challenges which means that the architecture becomes a key component. We’ve developed an excellent working relationship with them and find that the team are always professional and friendly and we’re delighted that this has been recognised with this award.”
