On Tuesday 11 September GHA & RIBA West Midlands welcomed guests to the closing event of It Will Never Work before it moves to RIBA HQ in London.
Urban Splash’s co-founder Jonathan Falkingham MBE treated guests to a lively tour of the exhibition and the history of Urban Splash, before answering questions from the audience.
Glenn Howells said “We were delighted to have hosted this terrific exhibition. Underpinning Urban Splash is a vision to change the concept of development and a commitment to design, people and places. For them it never starts with appraisals, profit, planning, risk, but with an idea, picture, story, a place – and a party. But as the exhibition shows, it has not all been a party and they not only weathered the cruelest recession but came out of it braver and fitter. They are now driving forward with developments and a range of housing types that will redefine the way UK delivers housing.”
Conor Nolan from RIBA West Midlands added “Jonathan really stuck a chord with the Birmingham architecture & design community, by offering a unique insight into the history of Urban Splash. With their Icknield Port Loop scheme clearly gathering momentum in the city, the timing of the exhibition & presentation could not have been better.”
The event was co-hosted by the Birmingham Architectural Association.
