A true icon, Birmingham’s once fading Rotunda tower above the redeveloped Bullring was revitalised as 234 sought-after apartments for Urban Splash.

GHA re-clad the Grade II listed, 22-storey landmark in anodised aluminium, removing 50% of the concrete cladding and increasing the glazed area to fulfil the compromised vision of the Rotunda’s original architect James Roberts.

The practice devised a smart floor plan that made the most efficient use of floor space and its cylindrical form was enhanced by new floor to ceiling windows. Textured glass provides external animation while internally GHA provided the glamorous reception as well as the spacious lobbies.

The Rotunda’s serviced apartments provided Birmingham with its first five star accommodation.
