London City Island’s ambition is to create a neighbourhood enriched by culture. The Grocer is a unique space that provides islanders with a social hub including: a grocery store, espresso bar, deli and restaurant. The modern and vibrant space, not only allows residents to pick up everyday essentials but also to socialise, dine and relax with other residents and the local community.
GHA’s interiors team worked closely with the broader design team and the client to make the design vision become a reality. Inspired by the bold architecture, the interior provides a statement upon arrival with the use of glazed Victorian green ceramic wall tiles against the hexagonal black and white flooring. Raw concrete and brick are featured, and the use of timber adds warmth to the space, whilst the upholstered banquette seating creates a soft and comfortable environment for people relax.
The use of dark metal, steel, antique oak and industrial light fittings also connects the interior with the exterior by complimenting the dark façade. The modern, carefully stocked and curated grocer references the revival and success of an authentic grocery store and brings together the local community to a welcoming, contemporary store that merges retail and restaurant.
The Social Club is a place where residents of London City Island can feel at home, with a range of facilities including a concierge service, ‘clubhouse’ lounge, library, gymnasium and games room.
GHA interiors team again worked closely with the design team, taking inspiration from London’s best exclusive members clubs. The Social Club is a timeless and luxurious lounge designed for residents to enjoy as an extension of their own apartment space, whilst the gymnasium provides a functional space to workout. Full height glazing throughout creates a light environment which connects the Social Club to the island’s landscape.
