Icknield Port Loop

Birmingham

Birmingham’s 18th century canal heritage is, literally, the thread running through this ambitious regeneration masterplan by GHA for the north west of the city.

1 million sq. ft of accommodation including 2,500 homes and 60,000 m2 of offices was proposed across the derelict British Waterways land with input by Gehl Architects, the Copenhagen-based people-centred city consultants.

As lead consultant, GHA has steered the substantial application, and helped shape the complex Environmental Impact Assessment. Embedded within the feasibility is GHA’s design and impact statement that has official force and guides the future form and character of the area.
