Barratt London’s Catford Green is a residential-led development situated in the heart of Catford providing 589 homes arranged over 13 plots.
GHA were engaged by Barratt London in 2015 to re-evaluate an existing planning consent for Blocks T & U. Situated at the northern apex of the masterplan, the 132-unit scheme is adjacent to Ladywell Fields, a designated Metropolitan Open Land. The client brief was to meet improve the relationship with Ladywell Fields and meet current Mayoral space standards.
Five distinctive blocks with recesses announcing the main entrances and connections to the park were introduced by GHA. The inset pavilion typology provides high levels of daylight and sunlight to all units and allow the north-eastern and north-western facing façades to be dual aspect.
The top floor of the building is elevated to outline a distinctive top. This is expressed through articulated metal panels which provide rhythm and depth to the façade. The middle block façade order continues to the ground floor where the duplex apartments are recessed to create a distinctive building base. The middle section of façade consists of a primary grid order expressed in a running band with textured brick panels, which together with fenestration provide infill to the main grid.
The completed scheme provides 179 units, including affordable and wheelchair accessible housing. The units consist of duplexes with up to four bedrooms providing frontage to the park.
