The university’s new music department building emerged from GHA’s long-standing engagement with the masterplanning of UOB. It also completes Aston Webb’s vision for the original campus with the addition of a contemporary facility for teaching and performing music within the environs of the Grade II* Chancellor’s Court.

At its heart is the 450-seat Elgar Concert Hall – a truly adaptable facility accommodating lectures, rehearsals or performances ranging from solos to an 80-piece orchestra.

The facilities have helped secure an ‘excellent’ teaching rating and 5* research rating for the faculty at the same time as meeting the university’s sustainability targets that demand an energy performance ten percent above that set by the Building Regulations.

"Working with GHA on the Bramall Music Building project was a fascinating and rewarding process. The final result provides a solution that meets all our general and specialised needs in a building that appears elegant and spacious, but is at the same time welcoming and friendly."
