Our architectural expertise comes from the constant exploration of ideas of how buildings and cities are made built and how they can improve the lives of individuals and communities. For our design teams to excel they need an equally strong and committed support team. Our studios are therefore supported by our in-house experts – from technicians to interior designers, visualisers to modelmakers, urban designers to graphic designers.
The best interiors are grounded in strong, simple, well executed ideas. We have broad sector experience and extensive industry knowledge allowing us to deliver the best design solutions for every environment, brief and budget. Close collaboration with the architectural studios and wider design team enables us to deliver fully considered solutions that are both functional and elegant.
The interior of the new John Hansard Gallery at Studio 144 is as well suited to contemporary art as anything launched in those two decades, from the Turner Contemporary in Margate to the Jerwood in Hastings.

Placemaking and people are at the heart of what we do. In our Urban Design Studio, we bring together a multi-disciplinary team with a range of experience in architecture, urban design and planning. The work we do underpins our core principles, and we deliver high quality schemes that are appropriate, improve a location and unlock the full potential of sites.
Through extensive model-making we interrogate our designs at different scales and in different materials. We are fortunate to have in-house modelmakers who have over 30 years of combined experience and trained backgrounds in interior and industrial design, fabrication and woodworking, as well as architecture. A physical model is invaluable when explaining proposals to clients, stakeholders and end-users and so we also encourage our architects and design teams to explore their ideas through simple modelmaking with card, foam and 3D printing.
Models are an integral and fundamental component of our design process and we don’t underestimate the power of a physical model to communicate an idea. They also serve as catalysts in early project discussions and throughout the detailed design stage as we test and explore ideas at all scales.
CGIs and virtual reality are an increasingly important component of our design process. Our visualisers oversee the production of images and visuals which help communicate proposals and concepts for buildings and places and we use virtual reality to review projects internally and at client presentations. The team are also commissioned directly by clients to produce marketing material. The team’s output contributes to design development from project inception to completion and allows the architectural team and clients to accurately monitor progress, flagging possible design issues and challenges.
We have a team of talented Architectural Technologists who work together with our Technical Architects, predominantly in the delivery phase of projects. Their expertise improves efficiency, project planning and the quality of detailing on all our delivered projects and they also provide a repository for expert advice and conduct technical audits at all RIBA work stages.
GHA’s Technical Studio have been professional in their approach to design and have displayed a high degree of knowledge and flexibility in their approach towards meeting the project’s technical, programme and commercial demands whilst paying close attention to Health and Safety and buildability at all stages.
