New drone images show progress on GHA’s £24m student housing scheme in Selly Oak for Land Securities and Unite using modern methods of construction. Now at level seven of 17, the precast stone construction is progressing at one floor per week which includes external walls, cross party walls, stairs and core.
FP McCann’s prefabricated façade panels integrate full height glazing by Glass Solutions with the construction methodology extending further to the bathrooms through the use of pods produced by Walker Modular. The early on collaboration with the main contractor Interserve has hugely benefitted in developing this approach.
Dav Bansal, Director at Glenn Howells Architects said “The level of prefabrication allows for time savings on site, less on-site labour, as well as a cleaner and safer environment on site. There’s also a higher guarantee of quality compared to traditional forms of construction, all working within a tightly constrained site with highways, canal, overhead power-lines and an adjacent development. It demonstrates the success of working with robust, traditional materials using modern methods of construction to deliver a high quality development.’
The project is due for completion in June 2019.
