GHA celebrated two awards at today’s annual British Council of Offices’ Midlands and Central England Awards lunch.
Glenn received the BCO Regional Committee Chair’s award which was introduced just two years ago and is chosen by the BCO Regional Committee Chair. It is given to an individual, a project, a company or a combination of all three in recognition of outstanding contribution to the regional property industry. The award was presented to Glenn by the new chair, Danny Parmar, Business Development Manager at Overbury.
Upon receiving the award Glenn said “This means a great deal to me as the BCO is an organisation that really does make a huge difference to our industry, the quality of workplace and indeed the quality of our cities. I have spent many days over several years with the BCO judging team in minibuses travelling between Aberdeen and Plymouth. The pain of these journeys (and sandwiches) was more than compensated by the experiences it offered, perhaps the best CPD I have ever had. This is because the analysis and scrutiny of projects at BCO goes way beyond the functional. As we all know, increasingly creating successful offices is not just about meeting standards but designing and delivering buildings that attract and retain the best people, but it is about making places and districts environments that are stimulating and rewarding to be in. Thankfully we have moved on from creating excellent business locations, we are now all in the business of making places where work, play and learning are overlaid. As work gets more difficult to differentiate from other parts of our lives we will see more interesting and complex interrelationships between higher education, manufacturing, meeting and play. I am very proud to be given this award, especially since this is my home town, but I must really share it with the terrific team and development community that I have been fortunate enough to work with here in Birmingham.”
GHA’s Cornerblock project at Two Cornwall Street in the heart of Birmingham’s Colmore Business District was also honoured with an award in the Commercial Category.
Studio Director Sandeep Shambi said “Since 1990 the BCO have celebrated, recognised, and researched best practice in all aspects of the office sector and so we’re delighted that Cornerblock has been identified. This 1980’s building had been disused for many years despite its prime location but it was clear that it offered an excellent opportunity to provide modern flexible workspace right in the heart of the Colmore Business District of Birmingham. Working closely with the client team at Bruntwood we were able to exceed the client’s vision and transform this building into a grade A modern workspace with tenant well-being facilities at the heart of the scheme, including a generous roof terrace and extensive cycling facilities.”
