Wardian London has been commended at this year’s MIPIM AR Future Project Awards in Cannes, France, in the residential category.
Now in their 15th year, the awards are the only competition exclusively celebrating excellence in unbuilt and incomplete projects. The awards celebrate creativity, and highlight examples of innovative and outspoken architecture that successfully responds to the brief and the local communities.
Wardian London, for Eco World / Ballymore, is located in West India Dock, overlooking Canary Wharf. Two slender residential towers are linked at lower levels by a podium accommodating a grand arrival space, residential amenities, retail and cafes, accessed along the dock path. The aesthetic of the scheme is inspired by Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward’s botanical ‘Wardian cases’. The stand-out feature of the building is the four-sided balcony wrapping each residential level, which conveys the high quality of the living experience to be enjoyed by all residents.
The scheme was granted planning approval in February 2015.
